Bald eagle, 2020, oil on canvas, 30 x 40 cm
Bald eagles pair and mate for life (after an extensive mating ritual) and only find new partners when one of the two dies. The bald eagle is only found in North America. Like owls, bald eagles have a second eyelid called a nictitating membrane, they can close this eyelid separately from their ‘regular’ eyelid. Fun fact: owls even have three eyelids.
